Girls maturing earlier?

Do girls mature earlier?

Heres an interesting comment from this page:

"No, girls CONFORM faster and assume that this is the same thing as maturity. It isn't. I've met teenage boys whose understanding of social conventions was very poor and would have marked them out as being "immature", yet their understanding of certain subject areas was WAY beyond that of their peers. And I've encountered very few girls whose academic maturity was similarly remarkable."

And the comment was made by a woman!

and heres another little gem:

"when was the last time a teenage boy impressed a girl by getting good grades? "Macho culture" is fuelled as much by oestrogen as testosterone."

The article itself is rubbish though. Those were just two diamonds in a sea of crap.
