Drop in sperm donors

UK: Fewer than 300 men are willing to be sperm donors for childless couples, according to new figures.

A strange article, as it focuses on how donors are needed for childless couples, but doesn't mention, at all, the fact that single women and lesbians also use sperm donors. I'm not sure whether this is because this is through a separate system, or whether its the clinics themselves trying to keep that out of men's minds as they campaign for more donors. The new rules, which no longer guarantee donors anonymity, are blamed for the drop in men willing to donate. But I wonder if its just as much due to the unwillingness of men to help lesbians and single mothers conceive babies with no daddy?

Plenty of those men are educating themselves via blogs such as this one.

I understand that women are now going abroad to get their sperm donation.Let's hope for their sake there are no gene problems otherwise we may well see a load of ugly bastards.
This practice is being carried out at a time when american men are being made to present lifestyle cvs
to prospective foreign brides and yet I have not seen one argument from the media contra women using this facility .

Yes and they will get tax subsidies for being mothers from us dumb saps. We are supposed to pay an indemnity to them for bringing bastard children into the world.
80% of the criminals are the product of single mothers.

While it would be nice to say the men are avoiding the pitfalls of breeding single mothers and lesbian fashion statements, I think its far more likely that the self preservation instincts of men are kicking in. When an "anonymous" sperm donor can be hit up for child support years later, effectively wiping him out financially, men see the writing on the wall and say "uh, no thanks."

Thankfully this is the same drive that is pushing the marriage strike forward. Risks outweight rewards? uh, no thanks.

I have never understood what would motivate a man to be a sperm donor. It seems both egocentric and pathetic at the same time. It might be seen as altruistic. Not sure I could ever see it that way.

I see this as really encouraging news. If there are only 296 dupes who are stupid enough to hand over their precious juices to be abused by the system, out of the whole male population of the UK, that shows that the average man is a hell of a lot more intelligent than the system gives him credit for.

Now I hope these banks run completely dry. Let them go whistle for it.
