Commercialisation of the family

A full-time stay-at-home mother would earn $134,121 a year if paid for all her work, an amount similar to a top U.S. ad executive, a marketing director or a judge, according to a study released on Wednesday.

Where would this line of thinking end? How much should a father get paid? How much should a grandparent?

Should a child get paid for looking after an elderly parent?

Should you expect to get paid for helping a friend or neighbour through a personal crisis? After all, without you they may have had to pay to see a psychologist.

Well said, Darren - "The Commercialization Of The Family". However, the "main stream media" is not really main stream anymore and it is increasing becoming irrelevent to many people, as who in their right mind would even consider this story anything other than total shit just to take up blank space and pander to silly delusional women - which have I.Q's lower than mushrooms.

What REALLY confuses me is the economics:

You can get a VERY good live in nanny for $40,000. Typical work week is ~50 hours

You can get a VERY good every day cleaning service for $3,000. Typical work week (per client) is ~7 hours

You can get a VERRY good home assistant for about $9,000. typical work week (per client) is ~9 hours

Add that up and you've only got $52,000 for the PROS!

There is no way to get the money work equation to balance to $134,000
