Peter Cochrane: Over the past year I have challenged several members of the recycling mafia. They vigorously defend the economics and right-mindedness of recycling but when confronted with the real facts, they always collapse back to the landfill argument: we can't keep digging holes. We are running out of space. Pollution is a problem. On closer analysis it turns out that none of this is true either.
Often the solutions to such wide-scale problems as consuming in a sustainable way owe more to political expediency than to scientific or common sense.
