If you read this article: Zadie Smith comes from behind to win a book prize at last, you may be forgiven for thinking that Ms Smith had beaten books by men to win the prize. Indeed, many less aware readers of this article (one of the headline articles in the Times today) will take this as another instance of a women 'being superior to men'.
What the article doesn't mention even *ONCE* is that the Orange Prize for Fiction is *ONLY* open to women. No men allowed.
I find this an interesting development, that they are now hiding the fact that its a women-only award. In fact, it so intrigued me that I went to the Orange Prize website and found that there also the fact is hidden; you have to read the FAQ small-print to discover it.
